VATICAN CITY, OCT. 17, 2010 (Zenit.org).- On Saturday, the 32nd anniversary of Pope John Paul II’s election to the See of Peter, a Mass was held in the Vatican to mark the event.

Archbishop Jozef Michalik of Przemysl, president of the Polish Episcopal Conference, celebrated the Mass, along with Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz, archbishop of Krakow, who was John Paul II’s longtime personal secretary.

The president of Poland, Bronislaw Komorowski, was among the participants. He and his wife and an official delegation were in Rome for an official meeting with Benedict XVI earlier in the day.

Another coworker and friend of the Polish Pontiff was among the concelebrants of the Mass: Cardinal Stanislaw Rylko, president of the Pontifical Council for the Laity.
