Pope's Lenten Retreat to Focus on Predecessor

VATICAN CITY, FEB. 10, 2011 (Zenit.org).- A French Carmelite with expertise in the theology of saints will preach this year’s Lenten retreat for the Pope and the Roman Curia.

Discalced Carmelite Father François-Marie Lethel will preach the March 13-19 spiritual exercises on the theme «The light of Christ in the heart of the Church: John Paul II and the theology of the saints.»

Father Lethel is secretary of the Pontifical Academy of Theology. In 2004 he was named a consultor to the Congregation for Saints’ Causes. He is the author of a book on the theology of saints.

During the Pope’s spiritual exercises, audiences are suspended.

Pope John Paul II’s beatification is May 1.
