BOGOTA, Colombia, AUG. 29, 2012 (Zenit.org).- The episcopal conference of the Catholic bishops of Colombia has declared its support for talks that are set to happen between the government and guerrilla forces that have been rebelling for decades.
“Blessed are those that work for peace,” a Tuesday press statement from the bishops declared. Dialogue is the only possible way to obtain peace, they stated.
The bishops said that they welcomed the news “with joy and hope” about the initial talks that could provide a start towards a process of peace that could, with God’s help, put an end to the armed conflict.
The statement promised the support of the bishops for the talks and promised their willingness to contribute toward a peaceful solution to the conflict.
The bishops appealed to all Columbians to unite themselves in the search for peace and for the building of a state that provides justice, solidarity and fraternity.
