The archbishop had been expected to begin work on October 15th but a sudden illness forced him to delay beginning work in the new post.

The Vatican has not revealed his medical condition; it said he required urgent attention but the illness was not considered serious. After a surgical procedure, the archbishop was released from a hospital in Padua on October 25, and has been recovering at his home in Veneto.
