The National Organization for Marriage is organizing a national march in defense of traditional marriage, which will take place 19 June in Washington DC.

“The March for Marriage will be an important means to promote and defend marriage for the good of our culture, to pray for our federal and state governments, and to stand in solidarity with people of good will,» affirmed a statement released by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth.

Signed by the committee’s chairman Bishop Richard Malone of Buffalo, New York, and San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone, chairman of the subcommittee for the Promotion and Defense of Marriage, the statement says the event “will provide an ideal occasion for participants to celebrate and give public witness to the unique meaning of marriage as the union of one man and one woman at a time when the religious liberties and conscience rights of those who promote and defend marriage are increasingly threatened.”

The statement encourages the faithful to participate in the March for Marriage, and calls on them to promote the initiative throughout their parishes and dioceses.

More information is available at the initiative’s website: www.marriagemarch.org. The Secretariat of Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth will also be promoting this event through its websites and social media.
