Pope Francis has appointed a new bishop for the Diocese of Boac in the Philippines.
Today, the Vatican announced that the Holy Father has named Father Marcelino Antonio Maralit of the Archdiocese of Lipa, to be the bishop of Boac.
Until now, the priest has served as pastor of Alitatag, Batangas, and also has been a member of the Council of Priests of the Archdiocese of Lipa.
Born in Manila on May 18, 1969, Marcelino Antonio Maralit would go on to study philosophy at St. Francis de Sales Major Seminary in Lipa City and theology at the Universidad de Navarra in Pamplona, Spain, earning a licentiate in Sacred Theology.
He later attended the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, in Rome, where he obtained a licentiate in Church History.
In March 1995, he was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Lipa.
The Asian priest has held various pastoral and academic posts. From 2009 to 2013, he served as rector of the St. Francis Theological Seminary.
