Pope Francis received in audience the president of the Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, this morning, Oct. 9, 2017.
According to a statement released by the Holy See Press Office, the discussions were cordial, and highlighted the good existing relations between the Holy See and Germany, particularly, and between the Church and the country’s institutions.
“Appreciation,” it noted, “was also expressed for the positive interreligious and ecumenical dialogue, especially between Catholics and Protestants in the fifth centenary of the Lutheran Reformation.”

“Attention,” the statement also said, “turned to various questions of mutual interest, such as the economic and religious situation in Europe and in the world, with particular reference to the phenomenon of migrations and to the promotion of a culture of acceptance and solidarity.”

After meeting with the Pope, the President of Germany met with Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, and Secretary for Relations with States, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher.
