Pope Receives President of Slovakia

Contribution of the Church to Society, Especially in Education, Highlighted

Pope Francis met with President of Slovakia, Mr. Andrej Kiska, this morning.
According to a statement released by the Holy See Press Office this morning noting their discussions were cordial, it stressed that the parties evoked the good existing relations between the Holy See and Slovakia, as well as the contribution of the Church to Slovak society, especially in the field of education.
Subsequently, the statement noted, various themes of common interest were considered, “including climate change and the reception of migrants, in the light of recent international meetings.”
Finally, attention turned to the international context and to peace, security and cooperation in Europe, in view of Slovakia’s Presidency of OSCE in 2019.
After meeting with the Pope, the president met with Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin and Secretary for Relations with States, Archbishop Paul Gallagher.
