The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Goiás, Brazil, presented by Bishop Eugène Lambert Adrian Rixen.

The Pope has appointed as bishop of the diocese of Goiás, Brazil, the Reverend Jeová Elias Ferreira, of the clergy of the archdiocese of Brasilia, currently vicar general and parish priest of the “Nossa Senhora de Nazaré” parish in Planaltina-DF.

Reverend Jeová Elias Ferreira

The Reverend Jeová Elias Ferreira was born on August 24, 1961, in Sobral, in the diocese of the same name, in the State of Ceará. He carried out his studies in philosophy and theology in the Nossa Senhora de Fátima Seminary in the archdiocese of Brasilia. He subsequently obtained a licentiate in pastoral theology in Bogotá, Colombia.

He was ordained a priest on November 30, 1991, and was incardinated in the archdiocese of Brasilia, in which he held the following offices: administrator of the quasi-parish “Nossa Senhora Das Graças” in Samambaia-DF; parish priest of “Santíssima Trindade” in Ceilândia-DF; parish priest of “Nossa Senhora do Rosário de Fátima” in Sobrandinho-DF; member of the pastoral and presbyteral councils, and the council for economic affairs; and episcopal vicar.

He is currently vicar general and parish priest of “Nossa Senhora de Nazaré” in Planaltina-DF.

The Holy Father has appointed as auxiliary bishop of the metropolitan archdiocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the Reverend Célio da Silveira Calixto Filho, of the clergy of the same archdiocese, currently parish priest of “Nossa Senhora de Fátima” in the Suburban Episcopal Vicariate, assigning him the titular see of Segia.

Bishop-elect Célio da Silveira Calixto Filho was born on 8 May 1973 in Passos, diocese of Guaxupé, in the State of Minas Gerais. Before beginning his formation for the priesthood, he studied mechanical engineering at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He then carried out his studies in philosophy in the “João Paulo II” Faculty of Philosophy in Rio de Janeiro (1996-1997) and theology at the Higher Institute of Theology in Rio de Janeiro (1998-2001). In addition, he attended a specialization course in history of philosophy in the Faculty of São Bento in Rio de Janeiro and obtained a licentiate in theology from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (2014).

On 28 September 2002 he received priestly ordination and was incardinated in the archdiocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro, where he held the following offices: parish vicar of “São José Operário”; vicar forane of the Second Forane of the Leopoldina Vicariate; and spiritual director of the “São José” Archdiocesan Seminary.

He is currently parish priest of “Nossa Senhora de Fátima”, in the Suburban Episcopal Vicariate, and member of the Chapter of Canons of the Metropolitan Cathedral of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro.
