The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of Astorga, Spain, Bishop Jesús Fernández González, currently titular of Rotdon and auxiliary of Santiago de Compostela.

Bishop Jesús Fernández González

Bishop Jesús Fernández González was born in Selga de Ordás, diocese of León, on September 15, 1955. He was ordained a priest on June 29. 1980, and incardinated in the diocese of León. He was awarded a licentiate in philosophy with a specialization in psychology from the Pontifical University of Salamanca.

He has served as rector and professor at the minor seminary and also formator in the major seminary, parish priest, episcopal vicar for pastoral care and for the clergy, and vicar general of the diocese of  León.

On December 10, 2013, he was elected as titular bishop of Rotdon and auxiliary of Santiago de Compostela, and was ordained bishop on February 8, 2014. In the episcopal conference, he is president of the Subcomisión Episcopal de Acción Caritativa y Social.
