September 8 is the Feast of the Nativity of Mary. The Pope has often called on Mary’s prayers in times of need.

On August 5, the Anniversary, Pope Francis made a surprise visit to Saint Mary Major, the feast of the dedication of the Papal Basilica, reported Vatican News.

At the church, the Holy Father knelt for a few moments in prayer in the Borghese Chapel, before the image of Our Lady, Salus Populi Romani (“Salvation of the Roman People”).

At the close of the Marian Month of May, the Holy Father led a Rosary at the Lourdes Grotto in the Vatican Gardens, invoking the aid of the Virgin Mary to end the coronavirus pandemic.
