Holy Father Makes Appointment in Greece

Metropolitan Archbishop of Corfu, Zakynthos and Kefalonia and Apostolic Administrator of the Apostolic Vicariate of Thessaloniki

The Holy Father accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Corfu, Zakynthos and Kefalonia and Apostolic Administrator ad nutum Sanctae Sedis of the Apostolic Vicariate of Thessaloniki (Greece) presented by His Excellency Most Reverend Mgr Ioannis Spiteris OFM.

The Holy Father has appointed as Metropolitan Archbishop of Corfu, Zakynthos and Kefalonia and Apostolic Administrator of the Apostolic Vicariate of Thessaloniki (Greece) the Rev. Priest Georgios Altouvas, currently parish priest of the Cathedral of Saint Dionysius in Athens.

Curriculum vitae

HE Monsignor Giorgios Altouvas was born in Athens on September 28, 1973.

He completed his primary and secondary studies in the neighborhood of Patissa, with the Marist Brothers. From 1992 to 1997, he obtained a Baccalaureate in philosophy and theology at the Apulian Theology Faculty, as a guest of the Pius XI Regional Seminary of Molfetta.

He was ordained a priest on October 3, 1998, for the Archdiocese of Athens.

From 1997 to 1999, he attended the Pontifical Institute of Spirituality Teresianum , obtaining a licentiate there.

He has held various positions in various parishes, is a member of the College of Consultors, Judge of the Ecclesiastical Tribunal of Athens, and National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies. Since 2015 he has been parish priest of the Cathedral of St. Dionysius in Athens.

In addition to Greek, he speaks Italian, English, and French.
