Appointment of bishop of Bougainville, Papua New Guinea

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of the diocese of Bougainville, Papua New Guinea, Bishop Dariusz Piotr Kałuża, M.S.F., until now bishop of Goroka.

Appointment of bishop of Querétaro, Mexico

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Fidencio López Plaza of San Andrés Tuxtla as bishop of Querétaro, Mexico.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop López Plaza was born on 28 April 1950 in La Estancia San José Iturbide, diocese of Quetéraro. He studied philosophy and theology in the seminary of his diocese and on 19 February 1982 he received priestly ordination. He specialized in pastoral care and catechesis in the Pastoral Theological Institute of CELAM in Medellín. He also attended postgraduate courses in community development in the Faculty of Sociology of the Independent University of Querétaro.

As a priest he has held the following pastoral roles: coordinator of the diocesan Secretariat for Evangelisation and Catechesis, professor at the Council Seminary in Querétaro, parish priest of several parishes, head of the deanery of Guanajuato, member of the presbyteral council and the college of consultors and episcopal vicar for pastoral ministry of the diocese of Querétaro. In the three-year period 2010-2012, he was coordinator of the base team for the Permanent Continental Mission in Mexico.

On 2 March 2015, he was appointed as bishop of San Andrés Tuxtla and received episcopal ordination on 20 May 2015.

In the Mexican Episcopal Conference he is responsible for the Dimension for New Evangelisation and Catechesis.
