The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of Juigalpa, Nicaragua, the Reverend Marcial Humberto Guzmán Saballos, of the clergy of the diocese of Granada, Nicaragua, until now diocesan chancellor and rector of the Santuario Nacional de Jesús del Rescate in Popoyuapa.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop-elect Marcial Humberto Guzmán Saballos was born in Tola, in the diocese of Granada, Nicaragua, on February 15, 1965. Before entering the seminary he studied economics and worked for a year in a bank. He subsequently carried out his ecclesiastical studies in philosophy and in theology at the National Seminary of Managua. He was awarded a licentiate in canon law from the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome.

He received priestly ordination on December 4, 1993, and was incardinated in the diocese of Granada, Nicaragua.

He has held the following offices: parish administrator of the parishes of Santa Ana in Moyogalpa, San Jorge in San Jorge, and the Inmaculada Concepción in Cárdenas; parish priest of the parishes of San Diego de Alcalá on the island of Ometepe, of Nuestra Señora de Candelaria in Diriomo, of Santa Ana in Nandaime, of Jesucristo Rey del Universo in Pantanal, and of Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro in Boaco; rector of the diocesan seminary of San Pedro Apóstol in Granada; episcopal vicar of the zones of Boaco and Rivas; judicial vicar and, from 2017 until the present, diocesan chancellor and rector of the Santuario Nacional de Jesús del Rescate in Popoyuapa.
