(ZENIT News / Vatican City-Apulia, Italy, 06.14.2024).- After an audience with the President of Cape Verde and another with artists from the world of comedy, Pope Francis departed by helicopter at 10:30 in the morning from the Vatican helipad to attend the G7 in Borgo Egnazia, in southern Italy.
Upon his arrival at the sports field of Borgo Egnazia at 12:10 PM, the Pope was received by the Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni.
Next, Pope Francis traveled by golf cart to the reserved residence, where bilateral talks were scheduled with Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund; with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy; with the President of France, Emmanuel Macron; and with the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau.
Giorgia Meloni officially welcomed the Holy Father in the courtyard of Borgo Egnazia, and at 2:55 PM, in the Sala Arena, the Pope participated in the Joint Session of the G7 and delivered his speech, followed by other addresses.
Afterward, following the official photo of all Participants, the Pope held bilateral meetings with the President of Kenya, William Samoei Ruto; with the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi; with the President of the United States of America, Joseph Biden; with the President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva; with the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan; and with the President of the Republic of Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
At the conclusion of the meetings, the Holy Father departed by helicopter from the sports field of Borgo Egnazia to return to the Vatican.
