The Holy See’s missionary agency Fides explained that the diocese, on the island of Celebes, has more than 125,000 Catholics out of a population of 4.4 million.
Most of the inhabitants are peasants and fishermen, and many are unable to go to church for the sacraments and services.
Thus, the diocese’s parish priests decided to respond to pastoral needs during Lent by becoming itinerant clergymen, Fides said.
