(ZENIT News / Vatican City – Rome, 03.30.2024).- At 5:00 p.m. on Good Friday, Pope Francis presided over the Celebration of the Lord’s Passion in St. Peter’s Basilica.
During the Liturgy of the Word, the account of the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ according to Saint John was read; subsequently, the Preacher of the Papal Household, Cardinal Raniero Cantalamessa, O.F.M. Cap., delivered the homily.
The Liturgy of the Passion continued with the Universal Prayer, the Adoration of the Holy Cross, and concluded with Holy Communion.
Hours later, at 9:15 p.m., the Via Crucis took place at the Colosseum in Rome.
To preserve his health in view of the Easter Vigil and the Holy Mass on Easter Sunday, Pope Francis was not present at the Colosseum, but followed the Via Crucis from Casa Santa Marta.
As announced on ZENIT, the texts of the meditations and prayers titled «In Prayer with Jesus on the Way of the Cross,» proposed this year for the Good Friday Via Crucis, were written by Pope Francis.
