Pope Appeals for Full Social Integration of Handicapped

VATICAN CITY, DEC. 2, 2001 (Zenit.org).- John Paul II appealed for the full social integration of the handicapped, on the occasion of today´s U.N. Day of the Handicapped.

While addressing pilgrims gathered at St. Peter´s Square, the Pope directed «a special greeting to all persons living with some type of handicap» and assured them of his «spiritual closeness.»

John Paul II expressed his appreciation «for all initiatives that foster the full and authentic social integration» of the handicapped.
