Pope Francis will take part in the inauguration of the global educational network “Scholas Occurentes,” at San Calisto Square, an extraterritorial property of the Holy See in the Roman neighborhood of Trastevere today, June 9, 2017. The ceremony is scheduled for 5 o’clock this evening.
Founded in 2013 through the vision of the Argentine Pontiff, within the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, Scholas Occurrentes works with children in difficulties, promoting educational strategies, which enables them to flourish through sports, art and technology.
Among the numerous initiatives set up by the organization were “Matches for Peace” with soccer stars; a partnership with UNICEF; and “Citizens projects» in 190 countries, through a network of 446,133 schools. It also has helped provide aid to adolescent mothers in Latin America.
