6 Canonizations Scheduled for May

VATICAN CITY, FEB. 19, 2004 (Zenit.org).- Six beatified people, including Gianna Beretta Molla, are scheduled to be canonized as saints on May 16.

The Vatican press office today announced the date of the canonizations, which will follow a public ordinary consistory, in the presence of John Paul II. The six are:

— Gianna Molla (1922-1962), who died after refusing cancer treatment, in order to spare her unborn daughter.

— Luigi Orione (1872-1940), Italian priest, founder of the Little Work of Divine Providence and of the Congregation of the Little Missionary Sisters of Charity.

— Anibal Maria de Francia (1851-1927), Italian priest, founder of the Congregations of the Rogationist Fathers of the Heart of Jesus and of the Sisters, Daughters of Divine Zeal.

— José Manyanet y Vives (1833-1901), priest, founder of the Congregation of the Sons of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph and of the Sisters Missionaries of the Holy Family of Nazareth.

— Nimatullah Al-Hardini (1808-1858), priest, religious of the Maronite Lebanese Order.

— Paola Elisabetta (1816-1865), founder of the Institute of the Holy Family and of the Congregation of the Holy Family.
