NEWSPAPER ACCUSES BRITISH MONARCHY OF BIAS
LONDON, DEC. 6, 2000 (ZENIT.org).- A London newspaper announced today that it will legally challenge the British monarchy in virtue of the new European legislation on human rights.
The Guardian refers to what it says is a discriminatory 17th century law which bars non-Protestants and illegitimate children from ascending the throne.
The newspaper also denounced an 1848 law that provides for the expulsion of anyone who invokes the abolition of the British monarchy. The Guardian also called for the holding of a referendum on the venerable monarchic institution.
