North American College Rector to Be Auxiliary Bishop in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, Missouri, JUNE 19, 2001 (Zenit.org).- The Pope has appointed Monsignor Timothy M. Dolan, rector of the Pontifical North American College in Rome, as auxiliary bishop of the St. Louis Archdiocese.

Monsignor Dolan was born in St. Louis on Feb. 6, 1950. He studied at St. Louis Preparatory Seminary before entering Cardinal Glennon College. Sent to Rome in 1972, to the NAC, he earned a master´s in theology at the Angelicum.

He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of St. Louis on June 19, 1976.

After pastoral work, he earned a degree in Church history at Catholic University in Washington, D.C. (1979-1983).

His has worked in the Apostolic Nunciature of Washington, D.C. (1987-1992), and been vice rector of the Kenrick-Glennon Major Seminary in the Archdiocese of St. Louis. He has been rector of the NAC in Rome since 1994.
