Aid to the Church in Need Funds 7,300 Projects

ROME, JULY 11, 2001 (Zenit.org).- Aid to the Church in Need helped fund 7,300 pastoral projects in 138 countries last year, its financial report says.

The Germany-based group said donations amounted to $56 million, from 370,000 benefactors in 17 countries. It targeted $3 million in aid to the Church in Russia, including projects that benefited the Orthodox Church.

The single biggest part of the group´s aid, 18%, was allocated to the construction of religious buildings, and the formation of priests, religious, and laity dedicated to pastoral care.

Grants were also made to Catholic media (16%), and to priests in difficulty through donations for Mass intentions (14%).
