The confederation of Catholic charities has appealed to its organizations in 154 countries to collect funds to counter the humanitarian crisis.

Caritas emphasized the gravity of the emergency, especially with winter approaching. It noted that the situation in Afghanistan was already precarious even before the British-U.S. bombings.

Caritas will also use the funds to offer food and health care to people in Afghanistan, in cooperation with aid agencies already working in the country.

The primary objects of aid are the residents of Kabul, Kandahar and Herat.
