The initiative of Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe, prefect of the congregation, is in response to John Paul II´s appeals in favor of the Afghan people.

It was launched last Saturday when Cardinal Sepe inaugurated the new premises of the congregation´s historical archive, which is being moved from Piazza di Spagna to the Janiculum Hill in Rome. The archive houses 12 million documents collected since 1622.

Among the objects to be auctioned are rings and precious objects donated by bishops from around the world.
