Polish President Hoping for August Visit by John Paul II

WARSAW, Poland, FEB. 22, 2002 (Zenit.org).- During his visit to the Vatican next week, the president of Poland will invite John Paul II to visit his homeland this summer.

“We will invite the Pope for the month of August and from my vantage point, the visit will take place in August,” President Aleksander Kwasniewski said in statements over Poland´s public radio station.

Father Adam Schulz, spokesman of the Polish bishops´ conference, confirmed Wednesday the official invitation that Cardinal Jozef Glemp, the primate of Poland, presented to John Paul II.

The Holy Father´s last (and seventh) visit to his country was in 1999. Kwasniewski will visit Italy and the Vatican from Feb. 26-28.
