On June 16, while John Paul II proclaims Padre Pio a saint, the first stone of a church, outpatient clinic and school will be laid, dedicated to the Capuchin friar, in the missionary Diocese of Tura, in the state of Meghalaya.

«There is a beautiful community of Christians composed of 125 families in the village of Thakimagre, where we will build the church,» Bishop Giorgio Mamalassery told Fides. «We will begin the works on June 16, and hope to finish them in one year.»

«Torrential rains makes the transport of materials difficult, given the poor condition of roads and bridges,» he said. «We hope this center will serve as a consolation to the poor and help to propagate the spirituality of St. Pio in Asia.»
