Bishop Sean Patrick O'Malley of Fall River, Massachusetts, will take the Palm Beach Diocese post.

He succeeds Bishop Anthony O'Connell, who quit earlier this year after admitting that he molested a former seminary student more than a quarter-century ago.

Sean O'Malley born in 1944 in Lakewood, Ohio. A Franciscan Capuchin, he was ordained coadjutor bishop of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands in 1984 and the following year became ordinary of the Caribbean diocese.

The Palm Beach Diocese has been run by an interim bishop since Bishop O'Connell resigned.
