Cardinal Theodore McCarrick of Washington is the scheduled celebrant. Bishop Thomas Daily of Brooklyn, New York, the Knights international chaplain, will deliver the homily.

New York City Fire Department Capt. Alfredo N. Fuentes will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Fuentes, a member of the Knights, was permanently disabled from injuries suffered in rescue efforts at the World Trade Center.

An oil lamp first used in Assisi, Italy, last Jan. 24 at the peace summit convened by John Paul II will also be lighted. All present will then light candles from that flame to symbolize a commitment to work and pray for world peace. The lamp was a gift to the Knights from the Vatican.

The Knights established a $1 million Heroes Fund for families of all full-time professional law enforcement, firefighters and emergency medical personnel who died in the rescue and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center and Pentagon.
