They will launch their efforts Oct. 16, the 24th anniversary of John Paul II’s election as Vicar of Christ.

The key elements of a Pope Day are a votive Mass for the Pope, public dissemination of the Holy Father’s teachings, and some combination of talks and video or theatrical presentations on the life and thought of John Paul II.

Other activities include distribution of the Pope’s writings in Times Square and on Wall Street in New York; in front of Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and around the White House in Washington, D.C.

Pope Day celebrations are also planned in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota; London, Ontario; Champaign/Urbana, Illinois; Worcester and Quincy, in Massachusetts; Couva, Trinidad; Minsk, Belarus; Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; and Banska Stiavnica, Slovakia.
