«Christianity as a culture has been gravely diminished in this land,» he told the Telegraph newspaper in a wide-ranging interview.

Acknowledging the damage of the clerical sex abuse scandals on the Church, he said: «When it faces what is true, whether it is about child abuse or anything else, and it confronts it and repents and says this will not happen again, the Church will, I think, emerge with greater credibility.»
