Pope Appoints New Nuncio for India and Nepal

VATICAN CITY, FEB. 9, 2003 (Zenit.org).- John Paul II appointed Spanish Archbishop Pedro López Quintana as Apostolic Nuncio in India and Nepal Feb. 8, the Vatican Press Office reported.

Archbishop López Quintana, 49, was consecrated as a bishop by the Pope last month on Jan. 6. Up until now, he was a consultant for general affairs of the State Secretariat, a post that kept him in close collaboration with the Holy Father. The archbishop is being replaced in Rome by the Msgr. Gabriele Giordano Caccia.
