Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, will present the book, which will be commented on by Giovanni Reale, one of Italy’s most prestigious living philosophers.

During the presentation of the texts translated into Italian — the original Polish version will be published the same day in Krakow — a professional actor will recite some of the poems written by the Pope.

This is the first poetic work that John Paul II publishes as Pope. Beginning in 1946, Karol Wojtyla published his poems primarily in two reviews, Tygodnik Powszechny and Znak of Krakow, with the pseudonyms Andrzej Jawien and Stanislaw Andrzej Gruda.
