Aberdeen Gets a New Bishop

ABERDEEN, Scotland, OCT. 13, 2003 (Zenit.org).- John Paul II appointed Father Peter Antony Moran, diocesan administrator of the Diocese of Aberdeen, as its bishop.

The see had been vacant since Bishop Mario Conti was named to lead the Glasgow Archdiocese in 2002. The Vatican press office announced the appointment today.

Peter Moran was born in Glasgow in 1935 and ordained a priest in 1959.

With 700,000, inhabitants, the diocese has 15,760 Catholics, 39 parishes, 28 diocesan priests, 17 religious priests, 11 permanent deacons and 33 men religious (not priests), 27 women religious and six welfare institutions.
