Grand Rapids Coadjutor Takes Over

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan, OCT. 13, 2003 (Zenit.org).- John Paul II accepted the resignation of Bishop Robert Rose from the pastoral care of the Diocese of Grand Rapids, the Vatican press office announced. Coadjutor Bishop Kevin Britt succeeds him.

The resignation takes place in virtue of Canon 401, Paragraph 2, of the Code of Canon Law, due to sickness or another serious cause.

The diocese has 161,000 Catholics in a population of 1.28 million. It has 90 parishes, 122 diocesan priests, 21 religious priests, 18 permanent deacons, 23 men religious (not priests), 283 women religious, 80 educational institutions and 13 welfare institutions.
