Metropolitan Kirill, president of the Department of External Relations of the Russian Orthodox Patriarchate, asked for a clear answer to the problem when addressing religious representatives of Europe at a two-day meeting here.
It should be «a priority of international politics,» the Orthodox representative added, inviting «all European countries and all religious communities to participate in its solution.»
Cardinal Godfried Danneels, president of the Belgian episcopal conference, participated in the assembly of the Executive Committee of the European Council of Religious Leaders (ECRL).
The objective of the meeting, held Sunday and today at the invitation of Metropolitan Kirill, was to evaluate relations among the religious institutions and organizations of Europe, the Belgian Catholic agency Cathobel told ZENIT.
The ECRL’s Executive Committee comprises 25 members of all religions: Orthodox, Muslims, Jews, Catholics, Protestants, Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists. It is the European branch of the World Council of Religious Leaders.
