At the end of today’s general audience in St. Peter’s Square, the Pope greeted members of the professional cyclist team Love and Life and the participants of the K2-2004 Alpine and scientific expedition.
«I wish that you will all be ever more aware of the role that sports can play, fostering relations of genuine fraternity and union,» the Holy Father said.
Among those present was Spanish cyclist Jesús Manzano, who recently reported drug use in cycling. He was expelled from his team after revealing the problem.
He then signed on with Love and Life, a team that promotes a pro-life message and staunchly opposes drug abuse.
