«I have come to cry with you,» said Cardinal Renato Martino, president of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, when he visited the hospital of Kalongo.

The papal envoy’s words «moved the people profoundly,» said Father Giulio Albanese, director of the Missionary Service News Agency.

«The cardinal assured them that he would do everything possible to call the international community’s attention to this crisis,» Father Albanese said.

The cardinal added: «Much is said about the Iraqi crisis, about what is happening in the Middle East, but about what is happening in this remote African region, little if anything» is said.
