2 Auxiliaries Named for Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania, JUNE 8, 2004 (Zenit.org).- John Paul II appointed Monsignor Joseph Cistone, vicar for administration of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, and Monsignor Joseph McFadden, as auxiliary bishops of Philadelphia.

Joseph Cistone was born in Philadelphia on May 18, 1949. After studies at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, he was ordained in 1975. He was appointed vicar for administration in February 1998.

Joseph McFadden was born in Philadelphia on May 22, 1947. He graduated in 1969 from St. Joseph University. He entered St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in 1976 and was ordained in 1981.

Monsignor McFadden is pastor of St. Joseph Parish in suburban Downingtown.

Cardinal Justin Rigali heads the archdiocese, the seventh largest in the country, with 1.49 million Catholics.
