Protestant Majority Fading in U.S.

NEW YORK, JULY 20, 2004 (Zenit.org).- The United States will no longer be a majority Protestant nation in years to come, says a new survey.

Between 1993 and 2002, the share of Americans who said they were Protestant plunged from 63% to 52%, according to a study by the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago, the Associated Press reported.

The number of people who said they had no religion rose to nearly 14% from 9%, the survey’s authors said. Catholics remained stable at about 25% of the population, they said.
