U.S.-born Monsignor Is Named Nuncio in Caribbean

VATICAN CITY, OCT. 3, 2004 (Zenit.org).- An American will be John Paul II’s representative in several Caribbean countries.

On Saturday, the Pope appointed Monsignor Thomas Gullickson, 54, as apostolic nuncio in Trinidad and Tobago, the Bahamas, Dominica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Until now, Monsignor Gillickson was an adviser of the apostolic nunciature in Germany.

In virtue of his office, Monsignor Gullickson will be ordained a bishop and given the title of archbishop.

He was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was ordained a priest on June 27, 1976, and incardinated in Sioux Falls. He has a degree in canon law.

Having entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See in May 1985, he has been a papal representative in Rwanda, Austria, Czechoslovakia, Jerusalem and Germany.
