«The master’s will offer essential knowledge on Archive Science, developing the capacity to evaluate and read the archive sources,» explained a statement issued by the Vatican press office.
«It is an initiative that offers an all together particular perspective in the solution of the problems posed by Archive Science, harmonizing the rigor and tradition of Vatican Archive Science with a humanist and socio-political profile of the tradition of the Roman Catholic University,» the statement added.
The master’s comprises courses in Archive Science, history, law and information technology applied to archives.
Prerequisites for entry include a bachelor’s degree and the title conferred will be «University Master of the First Level in Archive Science.»
Classes will be held at LUMSA’s Faculty of Law, with opportunities to learn on-site in the Vatican Secret Archive.
The master’s lasts one academic year, from November 2004 to July 2005. Registration is open until October 29.
