The symposium, the first of its kind, was held Sept. 21-25, 2003, in Rome. The Pontifical Academy of St. Thomas and the Thomas Aquinas International Society organized the meeting.

The volume includes addresses on Christology, metaphysics, morals and science.

Dominican Father Abelard Lobato wrote in the introduction that the congress was different from Thomist congresses of the past: «This congress is open to the problems of present-day culture. There is a return to St. Thomas and a new acceptance of Thomism.»

The 1,000 page volume includes a photograph of the Pope and his message to the Pontifical Academy of St. Thomas, and the names and e-mail addresses of all the participants in the international congress.
