New Health Officials Appointed at Vatican

VATICAN CITY, JUNE 21, 2005 (Zenit.org).- Benedict XVI has substituted the papal personal physician, Renato Buzzonetti, 81, in the post of director of the Vatican’s health care and hygiene.

The Holy Father appointed Giovanni Rocchi, professor of infectious diseases at the University of Torvergata in Rome, and Dr. Franco Berti, respectively, as director and vice director for health care and hygiene of the Governorate of Vatican City State.

The Vatican press office said that Buzzonetti, a specialist in gastroenterology and hematology, continues to be Benedict XVI’s personal doctor.

He also was personal physician to Popes Paul VI and John Paul II.
