It said Rayfran das Neves Sales, 28, and Clodoaldo Carlos Batista, 30, have already been in custody in Brazil for the Feb. 12 murder of Sister Dorothy Stang, who had worked as a missionary, according to a Reuters report.

A Justice Department spokesman was unable to say what the next step in the case would be.

Sister Stang, of the Sisters of Notre Dame, had been an activist for agrarian reform in the Amazon.
