Benedict XVI’s decision was confirmed to ZENIT by Bishop José Luis Redrado Marchite, secretary of the Pontifical Council for Health Care Workers.

The president of this pontifical council, Cardinal Javier Lozano Barragán, is in the South Australia capital visiting, together with Adelaide Archbishop Philip Wilson, the sites in which events will take place.

The Holy Father will write a message dedicated especially to the topic of the World Day, and will send a special envoy to represent him in Australia.

Bishop Redrado said that two congresses will be held to prepare for the World Day: one of a theological-pastoral character and the other of a scientific nature. The events will culminate on Feb. 11, feast of Our Lady of Lourdes.

Last month, Benedict XVI announced that World Youth Day 2008 will be held in Sydney, Australia.
