INTROD, Italy, JULY 26, 2009 (Zenit.org).- According to the results of X-rays taken Saturday, Benedict XVI’s broken wrist is recovering well, a Vatican spokesman reported.

Jesuit Father Federico Lombardi, director of the Vatican press office, made a statement about the medical examination that took place in the papal vacation residence in Introd where the Pope is staying until July 29. He broke his wrist July 17, at the beginning of his vacation, with a fall in his room. He was operated on in the hospital of Aosta.

Saturday’s check-up exam took place around 11:40 a.m. and «lasted for about a half hour and had great results,» the spokesman said. «The clinical exam showed that progress is good and corresponds to what was expected.»

One of the doctors in attendance, Vincenzo Sessa, will give follow up to the Holy Father’s progress once he is in Castel Gandolfo.

«When the exam was over the Holy Father greeted and cordially thanked the whole medical team for its service,» Father Lombardi said.
