Father Ly’s transfer to house arrest was reported by Eglises d’Asie, the information agency of the Foreign Missions of Paris.
The 63-year-old priest was released after three year of imprisonment in the Ba Sao penitentiary center, in the province of Ha Nam.
He was serving an eight-year prison sentence, handed down on March 30, 2007. Amnesty International recognizes him as a prisoner of conscience.
In a communiqué published on the Web site of the Archdiocese of Hue, the archbishop and auxiliary bishop, as well as the priests of Hue, celebrated Father Ly’s release.
