The blog is available in English, Spanish, French and Italian. It also links to the Vatican’s Twitter account and YouTube home page.

So far, the blog has some 35,000 news items on the Pope and the Holy See.

“VIS’ new blog has had a very brilliant opening,” Spanish journalist Miguel Castellvi, VIS director, told ZENIT. “Yesterday we had 9,532 visits: 6,216 to the blog in English, 1,562 to the Italian, 1,017 to the Spanish and 737 to the French.”

The information service is also venturing into Twitter.

“For the first time this Monday we ‘twittered’ giving on the Vatican’s twitter page the main news of yesterday’s VIS bulletin,” said José Miguel Castellvi, the moderator of the blog.

The Vatican Information Service is already in its 20th year. It transmits a daily e-mail news bulletin to subscribers at 3 p.m., Rome time.
