ROME, JULY 18, 2010 (Zenit.org).- Sacred Scripture is now even more accessible, with a new mobile application that allows Smartphone users to obtain the liturgical readings of the day, spiritual commentaries and saint stories.

Evangelizo, an international group of lay Catholics, just released the free mobile application for the iPhone, Android, or any other similar phone.

This program allows users to access the liturgical readings for the day, as well as for the previous week and the coming week.

“We realized that some people may not be able to be connected permanently and would otherwise quickly ‘go dry’ on the Word of God,” said Bertrand Couderc, cofounder of Evangelizo, an organization that counts on 68 volunteers worldwide.

He continued, “Everyone can now access the day’s readings even without being connected to the Internet.”

The organization reported that 500,000 people already subscribe to its daily emails.

It offers the readings from four liturgical calendars, in ten different languages.

Couderc noted that Evangelizo was initiated by lay people who “wanted to make the Word of God accessible far and wide.”

The organization’s objective is to continue working to make the program available in an increasing number of languages.
